Get more sleep every night
Easier said than done of course. We all have our excuses but the fact is we greatly suffer when we don't get enough sleep. Dr. William C. Dement, the pioneer of sleep medicine, outlines in his book The Promise of Sleep on how we are all shorting ourselves on sleep and what consequences that translates to.
Some of my takeaways:
Our awareness for of how sleepy we are really sucks
Number of deaths related to sleep are higher since its difficult to quantify or prove the degree of deprivation
A lot of doctors discount or don't understand sleep (probably because they didn't get any of it)
Our brains are just as active at night as they are during the day
7 hours of sleep is still short
We have a lot of control over the quality of our sleep
We as investors are always looking for ways to improve our ROI so let me frame it in this manner, sleep impacts your ability to get the best return on your investments.
I'll leave you with this thought: What would the quality of your work look like with an additional hour of sleep a night?
